Absa Bank Tanzania, in partnership with The Runners Club, has officially launched the Absa Dar City Marathon 2026, scheduled to take place on 17 May 2026 in Dar es Salaam. The event is expected to attract over 5,000 participants from across the country and beyond, promoting fitness, community engagement and healthy living.

This year’s marathon will feature three race categories: 21.1 KM (Half Marathon), 10 KM and 5 KM. Registration is currently open through the official registration platforms. Runners of all levels — from elite athletes, wellness enthusiasts, to recreational participants, are encouraged to register and join the citywide celebration.

At Absa, we believe in creating meaningful impact in the communities we serve. The Absa Dar City Marathon is more than just a race, it is a platform that promotes wellness, unity and social good. We are proud to partner with The Runners Club to bring this event to life and encourage all Tanzanians to embrace active lifestyles.” said Aron Luhanga, Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Absa Bank Tanzania.

Godphrey Mindu, Race Organizer and Vice President of The Runners Club, added: “This marathon reflects the incredible growth of running culture in Tanzania. We have seen communities come together through fitness, and this event is a celebration of that spirit. We look forward to hosting runners of all levels and delivering a world-class experience on race day.

Felix Donald, Secretary General of the Dar es Salaam Athletics Association, noted: “Events like the Absa Dar City Marathon play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing athletic talent while promoting health and discipline. As an association, we fully support initiatives that strengthen the athletics ecosystem and inspire the next generation of runners.

Representatives from local running clubs highlighted the event’s community value. Johnson Mbunda “Balozi” a Goba Roads Runners representative said the marathon “is not just about running, it’s the only event where runners from all over the country come together to meet, connect and build lasting friendships.” A member of Kigamboni Runners described the race as “a reunion each year, a chance to reconnect with friends and family, meet new people and experience Dar es Salaam in a unique way.

The launch was attended by members of multiple clubs, including Tabata Runners, TOT Runners, Absa Running Club, Salasala Runners and Kigamboni Runners, alongside event supporting sponsors. Their presence underscored the growing running culture and strong community spirit behind the event.
