Isles Second VP flies out to Cuba
SECOND
Vice President Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi yesterday left here for a special
bilateral visit to Cuba, where, among other activities, he is expected to visit
the parliament and hold talks with officers from the legislative body.
Accompanied by
his wife, Asha Suleiman Iddi and other senior officers, the Vice President will
also hold meetings aimed at strengthening relations particularly wooing for
more support from Cuban government in developing health and education
programmes.
According to a
press statement from his office, Ambassador Iddi was seen takeoff from the
Zanzibar International Airport by senior government and political leaders who
described Tanzania’s ties with Cuba as “enduring and historical.”
During the
week-long visit, the delegation led by Mr Iddi, is also expected to learn from
Cuban pharmaceutical manufacturing to boost medicines availability at home
(Zanzibar).
Cuba has been
supporting Zanzibar in various development programmes, mainly in education,
health, tourism, and culture, and the probably biggest project was the setting
up of a joint medical school here to produce enough medical doctors.
