UBER TREATS RIDERS TO FREE ICE CREAM IN DAR ES SALAAM

Uber in Tanzania today treated riders to a free ‘Ice cream’ treat as part of an on demand campaign to delight Uber riders. The ice creams will be delivered to the lucky Uber riders in Dar es Salaam between 11pm and 1pm.

Commenting on the campaign, Uber’s Country Manager in Tanzania, Alfred Msemo said, “At Uber, we are always looking for innovative, engaging and creative ways to generate excitement amongst our riders and driver-partners – they are after all, the reason we do what we do. At the touch of a button between 12pm and 3pm today, Uber riders will receive a delicious, cold treat of Ice cream without having to leave the comfort their homes or offices.”

In order to get a scoop of the delicious ice cream all that riders are expected to do is to simply open the app during the 12pm-3pm time window, tap the UberIcecream banner at the bottom of their screen and request for an ice cream. If the request is successful, an Uber ride will arrive at their location with a free Ice cream treat.

“Whilst we would like as many riders to benefit from this campaign, the free Ice cream will be available on a first come – first served basis. Only riders who are able to successfully request for the ice cream will be able to receive the order” added Mr. Msemo.

This on demand campaign follows similar stunts that Uber has done within East Africa. In Kenya and Uganda Uber had UberChoma an on-demand that saw riders in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kampala receive free Nyama Choma.

This week the company gave free Rolex chapattis to riders in Uganda to celebrate Uganda’s Independence Day. Earlier this year, riders in Dar es Salaam were treated to a whole pizza through another on-demand campaign dubbed UberPizza. “We know that one of the things that defines us most, even in the cities, is our sharing culture. UberIcecream is just one way of celebrating this vibrant Tanzanian culture and connecting with our riders and driver- partners in a memorable way.” concluded Mr. Msemo.
